Special and Memorable Events

Our historic church has some wonderful traditions and special, memorable events we'd like to share with you. Scroll down to see the year at a glance.

Our pastor beside the flowered cross on Easter SundayMARCH-APRIL

Ash Wednesday Service is held at 6:30 p.m. on Ash Wednesday (The ninth of March in 2011). It is a special service of symbolically watching our sins disappear. It is the beginning of preparation for Lent.

Maundy Thursday Service is held during Holy Week, on the Thursday before Easter. We start in the Sanctuary with a brief service and explanation of Maundy Thursday. At 6:30 we move to Celebration Hall for a special meal and reading of scripture. We end the meal with Communion.

Easter Sunday - During the service, worshippers bring fresh cut flowers and place them on the old wooden cross at the front of the sanctuary, giving personal meaning to the resurrection and new life. Here (left) is our pastor beside the flowered cross.

MAY

Mother's Tea - Held annually on the Saturday before Mother's Day. A wonderful time for mothers and daughters both biological and special for this event that recognizes the bond between women.

SEPTEMBER

Festival of Christ the Sovereign kicks off the second Sunday in September with the Pancake Breakfast by the Men's Group (A Gathering of Men for Christ). There is also a celebration during worship. The major celebration during this service is our church's anniversary. 2011 we will celebrate 123 years of serving Christ in Buena Park.

OCTOBER

Children's Sabbath happens each fall as we create a special service of worship to remember the children in our midst and the spiritual issues facing children.

NOVEMBER

Thanksgiving Service is an opportunity to worship with special thanksgiving. The Sunday following Thanksgiving we celebrate the church family's Thanksgiving with a "left-overs" pot luck immediately after worship.

DECEMBER

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 7:00 p.m. - We light our candles for the glory of God in this service commemorating Christ's birth. This is a Communion and candlelight service and we sing many Christmas Carols and share the Christmas Stories from Scripture.
